The 2003 MBZ SL55 AMG is widely regarded as Mercedes' best overall package ever produced, as it combines groundbreaking style, luxury and performance. Twenty years ago it was a true Supercar and the fastest production car of its time with a max speed of 202 MPH, faster than the Ferrari 550 and Porsche GT2. The SL55 AMG model was produced from 2002-2008.

This car pioneered the automatic "hard-top" convertable, opening and closing in just 16 seconds, at the click of a switch.

Mercedes AMG engines are hand-built with a silver plaque sitting on top featuring the name and signature of the lead engineer/mechanic who built it.

While normal MBZ SL500 and SL550s are known for their gentle twin-pipe exhaust notes and civilized ride the SL55 AMGs feature quad exhaust pipes, 100 more horsepower and sound like offshore racing boats, according to one automobile magazine journalist and test-driver who couldn't help but notice the difference.
